Chapters 7 - 12

Wow, this book is amazing!!!!! In these chapters, we really see how Frita really intends to liberate or free Gabe.

As I read these chapters, I started thinking about the title. Gabriel is not in prison or locked away, so what does he need to be "freed" from? Who is keeping him locked away? What do my book club partners think about this?

  1. I think Gabe is not free because he is letting his fears control him. If your fears stop you from doing things, then they act as the bars of a prison that prevent you from coming and going as you please.

  2. Gabe seems to be building up a lot of these fears in his own mind, for example, when he believed the spider had fallen on him and got so worked up that he threw off his clothing and ran home.

  3. That's a good point... I wonder if we really look at our fears, how many of them would be real fears and how many of them would be fears just because they are in our own mind...
