Have you ever had to be first at something new? How did it make you feel? Did you use any civility principles to get through it?
What principles of civility are Grace and Katherine lacking on pages 77-79? How could they correct it?

When I(Julia) was in first grade my mom signed me up for a Parks and Rec basketball clinic. It was meant for both boys and girls but I was the only girl. The boys were a lot better at basketball than me. I felt really out of place. When the coaches explained drills, it was like hearing French or something. I didn't have any idea what they were saying. By paying attention and listening to the coaches, I learned a lot and got better. I think things at school are going to get better for Rosemary just like they did for me.
ReplyDeleteKatherine and Grace are breaking at least 7 out of 25 Rules of Civility. The ones we think they are breaking are #3-Not thinking the best, #6 Not Speaking Kindly, #7 Speaking Ill, #9 Not respecting others, #13 Keep it down (Katherine screamed!), #16 They did not apologize earnestly, #25 Blamed Others!
We think that Grace and Katherine need to put themselves in Rosemary's shoes. They need to honestly view their actions, and think if they would like to be treated that way.
Wow Julia, thanks for sharing. You were very brave and I'm glad to hear that it worked out. Do you still play basketball?
ReplyDeleteI also think that if Grace and Katherine could look at their actions from Rosemary's perspective, it would make them see how wrong it was to accuse her of stealing.

When i went to camp Saginaw during the summer I was scared because it was a sleepaway camp and I never went to one before. My counselers made me feel better, even though I missed my family. My friends helped out also. I had a lot of fun at camp. When Ktherine acused Rosemary of taking her sweater, she was lacking thinking the best, don't shift responsibility and blame, keep it down,don't speak ill and others. Grace also was lacking those because she even said that Rosemary took Katherine's sweater when she knew that Rosemary didn't.
