Chapter 1

Tell us what you think of the characters so far? Can you relate to any of the characters? Why or why not?

  1. I can relate to Rosemary because when I was in preschool I sort of got bullied. Also, I had a best friend in that class. I can also relate to Rosemary because her parents fight a lot and I remember when my parents used to fight a lot.

  2. Yes, I can agree that it is very uncomfortable to hear adults argue if you are a child. It's especially upsetting if it is your parents arguing. When I was a child, I can remember my parents saying I wouldn't understand something until I get older. That used to drive me crazy, just like Rosemary. Now I tell my 11 year old daughter the same thing...

  3. I can relate to Rosemary for lots of reasons but my top reason is that her mom has an "idea" of what a girl should wear and it's not really Rosemary's style. My mom does the same thing sometimes like when I think an outfit is really cute and she says, "Absolutely NOT!"

  4. Julia, my daughter and I have the same exact discussions. I want her to wear "girlie" outfits and she's a tom boy to the heart. She's also very artistic so she puts colors and patterns together that I just don't understand:) Maybe this is a struggle lots of mothers and daughters go through.

  5. This is just an an FYI for the kids, Crispus Attucks, the person Rosemary's school was named in honor of was one of the first/or the first casualties of the American Revolution, at the Boston Massacre and he was African American. (Sorry I couldn't resist pointing this out even thought it wasn't about the character directly.)Annemarie
